4x4 La Azucarera — todoterrenos y SUV

Used 4x4s and SUVs for Mijas, from the coast to the campo

Mijas is a big and very mixed municipality: the coast at La Cala and Calahonda, the white village perched on the mountainside and, in between, a lot of countryside with houses reached by track. Which car suits you depends on where you live, and that is where a 4x4 specialist is actually useful. We are in Málaga itself: come and look at the cars at your own pace, or ask us to bring one to you.

Driving in Mijas: village streets, motorway and dirt tracks

Mijas Pueblo has steep, narrow streets, many of them really meant for walking, and the road up from the coast is a steady climb with plenty of bends. Down at La Cala, Las Lagunas or Calahonda it is coastal driving, with the A-7 and AP-7 right alongside. But a large part of the municipality is scattered countryside: houses and fincas on the slopes of the Sierra de Mijas reached by dirt tracks, sometimes with very steep concrete ramps that turn slippery when it rains.

For that mixed life we usually recommend an SUV with modern all-wheel drive: comfortable on the motorway, reasonable on fuel, and it will not get stuck on your drive on a wet day. A low range only pays off if the track is badly broken up, if you tow, or if you have land to work. One honest warning: many forest tracks in the sierra are closed to motor vehicles, so owning a 4x4 does not entitle you to drive down any track you like.

  • For the village itself, no: what matters there is a short car with a tight turning circle. Four-wheel drive starts to make sense if your house is outside the village on the hillside, with a dirt access or a concrete ramp that gets tricky in the rain. In that case an all-wheel-drive SUV is usually enough.
