The Vega de Antequera is a wide farming plain, criss-crossed by dirt tracks between the fincas that turn to heavy mud after rain and fine dust in summer. To the south the mountains rise, with El Torcal and its winding roads, and the climate is inland: colder winters than on the coast, with frost and fog over the vega on some mornings.

If you work the land or tow a trailer with equipment or livestock, the sensible choice is an off-roader with a low range and ideally a separate chassis: it takes punishment better and is repaired with fewer surprises. That is exactly why a used one needs a close look before you buy: the tow bar, the underbody, the axles and the transfer case tell you the life the vehicle has had. If your driving is mostly road with the odd well-kept track, an all-wheel-drive SUV will be cheaper to keep running.
